FAQ

Is Hop Dungeon free? Do I need to download it?

Completely free — no download and no sign-up. Press Play and it runs in your browser on desktop, tablet or phone. The whole game is a single web page, so it also works offline once saved.

How do you play Hop Dungeon? What are the rules?

One move per turn: step to an adjacent tile, or hop over a skeleton (or rock) into the empty tile beyond. Hopping over a skeleton kills it, and you can keep hopping in the same turn for a combo. Tiles a skeleton will attack are marked red in advance — never end your turn on one. Lava rises ring by ring, pushing you toward the centre. There are 8 floors; clearing one takes you straight down and heals 1 HP. Kill the boss on floor 8 (Lich King or Bone Colossus) and you win.

How is it related to Chinese Checkers?

The movement is almost identical: in Chinese Checkers you hop over a piece into the empty spot beyond and can chain several hops in a row — Hop Dungeon works the same way. The difference is that you are hopping over skeletons on a hexagonal dungeon floor, they die when you do it, and they hit back. If you like that chained-hop feeling but want some adventure and randomness, give it a try.

I want to play regular Chinese Checkers online. Is that here?

There is no traditional multiplayer Chinese Checkers here. Hop Dungeon borrows the hopping movement for a single-player puzzle adventure — about 10 minutes a run, no waiting for opponents.

What do the red tiles mean?

Red tiles are where skeletons will attack at the end of the turn. Different skeletons threaten different shapes: the Skeleton cuts the three tiles ahead, the Hopper leaps 2 tiles, the bosses seal whole rings. End your turn off the red and you take no damage — the bestiary shows every skeleton's range.

What are the glowing things on the board? How do items work?

Those are items: walk or land on one to pick it up. Shield and Heart apply immediately — a shield blocks the next hit (stacks to 2), a heart restores 1 HP. Leap (jump across gaps), Swap (trade places with an adjacent enemy) and Dash (two steps this turn) go into your hand, one at a time: tap the item button to arm it, then take a landing marked with the item icon to spend it. A normal landing does not waste it, and tapping the button again cancels.

Do I have to start over if I go down?

No. Retry floor puts you back at the start of the current floor, as often as you like, and you can retry whenever a floor goes badly. Each floor has three stars: no damage, clear within the turn limit, and land a combo. Your best stars per floor are recorded.

How long is a run? Does it work on phones?

8 floors, around 10 minutes a run. You can stop any time and pick up from Continue next visit. The portrait phone layout is built for one-handed tile tapping.

What is the daily challenge?

A new Daily Dungeon is generated at midnight, and everyone plays the same map with the same hero that day. Only your first clear of the day counts — later attempts do not overwrite it.

Does my progress save?

Yes. Unlocked heroes, achievements, best stars per floor and daily results are stored in this browser — no account needed. Clearing browser data clears them too.

Does the game collect my data?

When you play on the website, the game sends anonymous gameplay data: floor reached, turns per floor, retries, which items you picked up and used, whether you won, plus device type (desktop or phone) and a rough screen size. Players are told apart by a random ID generated in your browser — no IP, device model, name or other personal information — and the data is only used to tune difficulty and improve the game. Feedback can include contact details, which are optional and only used to reply. See the privacy page for details.
